If this attitude towards cats goes back generations then one can understand why historians say the Black colored Death were only available in China. Where there are rats no cats then the rats dominate and that could have been a precursor for the condition to get near people. Now once i go back to China you may still find rats running around but not so many in the enclosure estates. There are many down by the river. Also they employ a efficient rubbish tidy up system that will keep the places very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is accumulated everyday. That would also keep carefully the rat society down. And with so many discarded felines running around the rats don't have much of an opportunity. I've never seen this but I think the government picks up a great deal of felines. There used to be colonies of stray felines moving into some places however now I don't see them any longer.
Pet cats and mankind have been residing in harmony for many years but that has not always been the truth. There have been times when felines have been almost wiped out in the name of God. And what took place the Black Death reigned supreme for a lot longer than it will. So we will get back to the origins of recorded record to enough time of the pharaohs of Egypt. Here pet cats were revered as Gods and many were mummified to previous for eternity. As the cats guarded the grain warehouses and wiped out the rats and mice that given on the grain. Therefore minimizing famines, which were the curse of Egypt. It was illegal to eliminate cats in those times, like cows in India today.
Then the nine lives of the humble feline who only wished to help mankind by getting rid of rodents that transported disease took a significant change for the more serious during the dark ages. Where witch hunts and losing at the stake were typical. Somebody who didn't like pet cats somehow connected those to witches plus they were burnt at the stake with there owners. How they made that interconnection I'll never know. It began with Pope Gregory IX in the 1232 who considered the normal house feline as diabolical. Then to make things more serious in1484 along came up the greatest kitty killer ever, Pope Innocent VIII, who decreed something such as all cats originated from hell and really should returned to the fires of hell by open fire. Cats were mercilessly prosecuted and were burnt so they might go back to the fires of hell. It really is amazing any survived because if you were found with a kitty you were burnt collectively. I still go to chapel and sometimes I just wonder why. And undoubtedly the Black Fatality was in the background surviving and flourishing because there were no felines to wipe out the rats that taken the fleas that induced the disease. Then along came the cat's savior King Louis XIII of France, who in the 1630s repealed the law and cats once more started to live. But they were still hated and wiped out for many centuries from then on. I have no idea if the Black color Death subsided but cats once again protected mankind contrary to the diseases taken by rodents. Along with the famines brought on by mice plagues.
