Cats actually carry a few parasites, a few fleas and some diseases and some can turn serious however, not many. If felines were causing too much sickness they might not need invaded our lives as well as they have got. But there are still people out there who do not like felines. When I first went to China about twenty years ago there have been very few felines living with people and incredibly few wild cats. I was impressed because I've experienced cats all my life and I never thought people didn't like pet cats. But then in China the individuals said cats transported disease and that was it. I think that may have something regarding that cat suffering you get in your vision. Not serious just a little problem for weekly In case you were pregnant you'd to stay away from cats. I believe they were referring to toxoplasmosis, but if you get that when you are a kid it should not affect your child. In addition they said cats were grubby but I don't believe so. I think pet cats are one of the cleanest dogs and cats you can have. I think that came from the cats killing the rats and mice. Because rats are extremely dirty pets then because the cats wiped out and ate them they will also be dirty. A soiled by connection type of thing. Also there have been some big sewer rats working round throughout the day. Once I found a rat and a pet cat face off the other person and the cat wasn't much bigger than the rat. They were about a ft . apart staring the other person out and the cat ran away. I'm not amazed the rat's tooth were bigger that the felines.
I believe one of the reasons there were not many cats around is basically because they used to consume them. And once in a while the restaurant cat catches would pick up an kitty they may find and take them back to the restaurant. I recall seeing felines in glass exhibits out the front of the restaurants. But somewhere between then and today they restricted eating felines. So cats are actually not on the menu and today there are pet cats everywhere. Many of them began in someone's house and got thrown away, as most are very friendly. Also they may have this thing about belly worms. And in those times China was not as modern as now so abdominal worms would have been a problem. Fleas are not really a problem because they have tile floors and solid wood furniture.
If this frame of mind towards cats goes back generations the other can understand why historians say the Black Death started in China. Where there are rats and no cats then your rats dominate and that would have been a precursor for the disease to get near to people. Now when I get back to China there are still rats playing around but not so many in the casing estates. There are lots of down by the river. Also they have a very efficient rubbish clean up system that retains the towns very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is gathered everyday. That would also keep the rat human population down. And with so many discarded cats playing around the rats don't have much of the opportunity. I've never seen this but I believe the government picks up a lot of felines. There used to be colonies of stray cats surviving in some places but now I don't see them any longer.
