Then the nine lives of the humble kitten who only wanted to help mankind by eliminating rodents that carried disease took a serious flip for the worse during the dark ages. Where witch hunts and using at the stake were typical. Someone who didn't like pet cats somehow connected those to witches and they were burnt at the stake with there owners. That they made that interconnection I'll never know. It began with Pope Gregory IX in the 1232 who regarded the common house kitten as diabolical. Then to make issues worse in1484 along came up the greatest feline killer ever, Pope Innocent VIII, who decreed something such as all cats came from hell and should delivered to the fires of hell by hearth. Felines were mercilessly prosecuted and were burnt so they would return to the fires of hell. It is amazing any survived because if you were captured with a pet cat you were burnt alongside one another. I still go to chapel and sometimes I just wonder why. And of course the Black Loss of life was in the background surviving and thriving because there were no felines to eliminate the rats that transported the fleas that brought on the condition. Then along arrived the cat's savior King Louis XIII of France, who in the 1630s repealed the law and cats once again began to live. However they were still hated and wiped out for many centuries from then on. I don't know if the Black Death subsided but felines once again shielded mankind resistant to the diseases carried by rodents. And the famines due to mice plagues.
If this attitude towards cats goes back generations the other can understand why historians say the Black color Death were only available in China. Where there are rats no cats then the rats dominate and that could have been a precursor for the condition to get close to people. Now whenever i get back to China you may still find rats running around but not so many in the cover estates. There are plenty of down by the river. Also they employ a efficient rubbish clean up system that retains the places very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is accumulated everyday. That would also keep the rat people down. And with so many discarded pet cats playing around the rats don't have much of a chance. I've never seen this but I believe the government accumulates a great deal of cats. There used to be colonies of stray felines moving into some places however now I don't see them any more.
Cats actually bring a few parasites, a few fleas plus some diseases and a few can turn serious however, not many. If cats were triggering too much sickness they would not have invaded our lives as well as they have. But you may still find people out there who do not like cats. When I first visited China about twenty years ago there have been very few felines coping with people and incredibly few wild cats. I was surprised because I've experienced cats all my life and I never thought people didn't like pet cats. But then in China individuals said cats taken disease and that was it. I feel that may have something regarding that cat tired you get in your attention. Not serious just a minor problem for weekly If you were pregnant you'd to stay away from cats. I believe they were referring to toxoplasmosis, but if you get that whenever you are a kid it should not affect your baby. They also said felines were grubby but I don't believe so. I think cats are one of the cleanest pets you can have. I think that came from the cats eliminating the rats and mice. Because rats are extremely dirty pets or animals then because the pet cats wiped out and ate them they'll also be filthy. A dirty by connection type of thing. Also there were some big sewer rats working round throughout the day. Once I found a rat and a feline face off each other and the cat wasn't much bigger than the rat. They were about a foot apart staring one another out and the cat ran away. I'm not amazed the rat's tooth were bigger that the cats.
