If this frame of mind towards cats dates back generations the other can understand why historians say the African american Death were only available in China. Where there are rats no cats then your rats dominate and that could have been a precursor for the disease to get close to people. Now while i get back to China there are still rats playing around but not so many in the real estate estates. There are lots of down by the river. Also they have a very efficient rubbish clean up system that maintains the metropolitan areas very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is collected everyday. That would also keep the rat human population down. And with so many discarded felines running around the rats don't possess much of the opportunity. I've never seen this but I believe the government picks up a great deal of pet cats. There used to be colonies of stray pet cats moving into some places but now I don't see them any more.
I believe one of the reason why there were not many cats around is basically because they used to eat them. And every now and then the restaurant cat catches would grab an feline they may find and take them back again to the restaurant. I remember seeing cats in glass exhibits out leading of the restaurants. But somewhere between then and today they forbidden eating felines. So cats are now not on the menu and now there are felines everywhere. Many of them began in someone's house and acquired thrown away, because so many are extremely friendly. Also they have this thing about abdominal worms. And in those days China was not as modern as now so tummy worms is a problem. Fleas are not a really problem because they have tile flooring and solid wood furniture.
Then the nine lives of the humble feline who only wished to help mankind by getting rid of rodents that carried disease took a significant convert for the even worse during the dark ages. Where witch hunts and getting rid of at the stake were the norm. A person who didn't like cats somehow connected those to witches and they were burnt at the stake with there owners. That they made that interconnection I'll never know. It started off with Pope Gregory IX in the 1232 who deemed the common house cat as diabolical. Then to make matters even worse in1484 along came up the greatest kitty killer ever, Pope Innocent VIII, who decreed something such as all cats originated from hell and really should delivered to the fires of hell by open fire. Felines were mercilessly prosecuted and were burnt so they might return to the fires of hell. It really is amazing any survived because if you were trapped with a cat you were burnt together. I still go to chapel and sometimes I just wonder why. And of course the Black Death was in the background surviving and flourishing because there have been no felines to destroy the rats that carried the fleas that caused the disease. Then along came the cat's savior King Louis XIII of France, who in the 1630s repealed regulations and cats once more started to live. But they were still hated and killed for many centuries from then on. I don't know if the African american Loss of life subsided but felines once again secured mankind against the diseases taken by rodents. Plus the famines due to mice plagues.
