Cats are extremely popular as household pets. Also, they are beautiful, fluffy and affectionate, but a lot more self-reliant than pet dogs. Most felines can be still left alone all day long (or even over night) without ill-effect. Felines tend to eat much less that canines (with the exception of the toy variety of dog), plus they don't require twice daily walks, interval training, or constant supervision. Cats and kittens are a breeze to house-train, too. Just give them a litter-box and some litter saved in a silent nook of the basement, and you can rest assured your kitty will litter train itself.
There are a few minuses as it pertains to cat possession, however. A number of people suffer from allergies to kitten dander, which can make it difficult to be around felines. Cats, by nature, prefer to sharpen their claws. Many a kitty has been recognized to ruin living room furniture with their claws, although a feline scratching post can sometimes serve as a good substitute for the feline.
