Then your nine lives of the humble pet cat who only wanted to help mankind by getting rid of rodents that taken disease took a significant change for the even worse during the dark ages. Where witch hunts and losing at the stake were the norm. Someone who didn't like cats somehow connected those to witches plus they were burnt at the stake with there owners. That they made that connection I'll never know. It started off with Pope Gregory IX in the 1232 who deemed the common house feline as diabolical. Then to make issues even worse in1484 along arrived the greatest feline killer of all time, Pope Innocent VIII, who decreed something along the lines of all cats came from hell and really should went back to the fires of hell by flame. Pet cats were mercilessly prosecuted and were burnt so they would go back to the fires of hell. It really is amazing any survived because if you were trapped with a feline you were burnt mutually. I still go to chapel and sometimes I just wonder why. And of course the Black Fatality was in the background surviving and thriving because there have been no pet cats to kill the rats that carried the fleas that induced the condition. Then along arrived the cat's savior Ruler Louis XIII of France, who in the 1630s repealed regulations and cats once again began to live. However they were still hated and wiped out for many centuries after that. I don't know if the Black colored Fatality subsided but felines once again protected mankind up against the diseases transported by rodents. Plus the famines brought on by mice plagues.
If this attitude towards cats goes back generations the other can understand why historians say the Dark colored Death were only available in China. Where there are rats and no cats then your rats dominate and that would have been a precursor for the condition to get near to people. Now whenever i get back to China there are still rats running around but not so many in the real estate estates. There are lots of down by the river. Also they have a very efficient rubbish clean up system that maintains the metropolitan areas very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is collected everyday. That could also keep the rat population down. And with so many discarded felines playing around the rats don't possess much of a chance. I've never seen this but I suspect the government picks up a whole lot of cats. There used to be colonies of stray pet cats living in some places however now I don't see them any more.
