Then your nine lives of the humble feline who only wished to help mankind by eradicating rodents that carried disease took a significant switch for the even worse during the middle ages. Where witch hunts and using at the stake were the norm. Someone who didn't like cats somehow connected them to witches plus they were burnt at the stake with there owners. The way they made that interconnection I'll never know. It began with Pope Gregory IX in the 1232 who regarded the normal house kitten as diabolical. Then to make things even worse in1484 along came up the greatest kitten killer of all time, Pope Innocent VIII, who decreed something along the lines of all cats came from hell and should returned to the fires of hell by flames. Cats were mercilessly prosecuted and were burnt so they might go back to the fires of hell. It really is amazing any survived because if you were found with a kitten you were burnt mutually. I still go to chapel and sometimes I simply wonder why. And undoubtedly the Black Death was in the background surviving and flourishing because there have been no cats to kill the rats that carried the fleas that caused the disease. Then along came the cat's savior King Louis XIII of France, who in the 1630s repealed regulations and cats once more started to live. However they were still hated and killed for many decades after that. I have no idea if the Dark colored Fatality subsided but felines once again guarded mankind resistant to the diseases carried by rodents. Plus the famines due to mice plagues.
I think one of the reason why there were few cats around is because they used to consume them. And every now and then the restaurant kitten catches would pick up an cat they may find and take them back to the restaurant. I remember seeing felines in glass displays out the front of the restaurants. But somewhere within then and now they suspended eating felines. So cats are now not on the menu and now there are cats everywhere. Many of them started off in someone's house and acquired thrown away, since many are very friendly. Also they have got this thing about abdomen worms. And in those days China had not been as modern as now so abdominal worms would have been a problem. Fleas are not a really problem because they have tile floors and real wood furniture.
Cats actually hold a few parasites, a few fleas and some diseases and some can turn serious but not many. If felines were causing too much sickness they might not need invaded our lives as well as they have got. But there are still people out there who do not like pet cats. When I first went to China about 20 years ago there have been very few felines living with people and very few wild cats. I was surprised because I've got cats all my life and I never thought people didn't like cats. But in China the folks said cats carried disease and this was it. I feel that might have something to do with that cat sick you enter your eye. Not serious only a little problem for a week And if you were pregnant you'd to stay away from cats. I believe they were referring to toxoplasmosis, but if you get that when you are a youngster it should not affect your baby. They also said felines were soiled but I don't think so. I believe felines are one of the cleanest dogs and cats you could have. I feel that originated from the cats eradicating the rats and mice. Because rats are incredibly dirty family pets then because the felines wiped out and ate them they'll also be soiled. A filthy by connection type of thing. Also there have been some big sewer rats working round during the day. Once I found a rat and a feline face off one another and the kitty wasn't much bigger than the rat. These were about a foot apart staring the other person out and the cat ran away. I'm not stunned the rat's teeth were bigger that the cats.
