If this attitude towards cats dates back generations then one can realize why historians say the Black Death started in China. Where there are rats no cats then the rats dominate and that could have been a precursor for the condition to get close to people. Now after i get back to China you may still find rats running around however, not so many in the casing estates. There are numerous down by the river. Also they have a very efficient rubbish clean up system that will keep the places very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is gathered everyday. That could also keep the rat society down. And with so many discarded felines running around the rats don't possess much of the opportunity. I've never seen this but I think the government accumulates a lot of pet cats. There used to be colonies of stray cats living in some places however now I don't see them any longer.
Felines and mankind have been surviving in harmony for quite some time but that has not always been the truth. There were times when pet cats have been almost destroyed in the name of God. And what occurred the Black Fatality reigned supreme for a lot longer than it should. So we will go back to the beginnings of recorded record to the time of the pharaohs of Egypt. Here cats were revered as Gods and many were mummified to previous for eternity. As the felines guarded the grain warehouses and killed the rats and mice that fed on the grain. Therefore minimizing famines, which were the curse of Egypt. It was illegal to destroy cats in those days, like cows in India today.
