Then your nine lives of the humble cat who only wanted to help mankind by eliminating rodents that transported disease took a significant change for the even worse during the dark ages. Where witch hunts and losing at the stake were the norm. A person who didn't like pet cats somehow connected these to witches and they were burnt at the stake with there owners. That they made that interconnection I'll never know. It started off with Pope Gregory IX in the 1232 who regarded the normal house pet cat as diabolical. Then to make issues even worse in1484 along came the greatest pet cat killer of all time, Pope Innocent VIII, who decreed something such as all cats originated from hell and should returned to the fires of hell by flame. Cats were mercilessly prosecuted and were burnt so they might go back to the fires of hell. It really is amazing any survived because if you were caught with a cat you were burnt collectively. I still go to church and sometimes I simply wonder why. And of course the Black Fatality was in the backdrop surviving and growing because there have been no felines to eliminate the rats that carried the fleas that caused the condition. Then along arrived the cat's savior Ruler Louis XIII of France, who in the 1630s repealed the law and cats once again started to live. But they were still hated and killed for many centuries after that. I have no idea if the Black colored Fatality subsided but cats once again shielded mankind up against the diseases taken by rodents. Plus the famines due to mice plagues.
If this frame of mind towards cats dates back generations the other can understand why historians say the Black color Death were only available in China. Where there are rats and no cats then your rats dominate and that could have been a precursor for the disease to get near to people. Now whenever i go back to China there are still rats playing around but not so many in the enclosure estates. There are many down by the river. Also they employ a efficient rubbish clean up system that maintains the towns very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is collected everyday. That would also keep the rat inhabitants down. And with so many discarded felines playing around the rats don't possess much of a chance. I've never seen this but I think the government accumulates a great deal of cats. There used to be colonies of stray felines living in some places however now I don't see them any more.
