I think one of the reason why there were not many cats around is basically because they used to consume them. And once in a while the restaurant cat catches would pick up an cat they may find and take them back again to the restaurant. I remember seeing felines in glass exhibits out the front of the restaurants. But somewhere within then and today they prohibited eating felines. So cats are now not on the menu and now there are pet cats everywhere. Most of them began in someone's house and got thrown away, because so many are very friendly. Also they have this thing about belly worms. And in those times China had not been as modern as now so stomach worms would have been a problem. Fleas aren't really a problem because they have got tile floor surfaces and solid wood furniture.
Cats actually bring a few parasites, a few fleas and some diseases and some can turn serious but not many. If pet cats were creating too much sickness they would not have invaded our lives as well as they have. But there are still people out there who do nothing like felines. When I first went to China about twenty years ago there were very few cats coping with people and very few wild cats. I was amazed because I've acquired cats all my entire life and I never thought people didn't like cats. But in China the folks said cats taken disease and this was it. I think that might have something to do with that cat sick you enter your eyeball. Not serious simply a slight problem for a week And when you were pregnant you'd to keep away from cats. I think they were referring to toxoplasmosis, but if you get that whenever you are a youngster it should not affect your baby. They also said cats were dirty but I don't believe so. I think cats are one of the cleanest pets you could have. I think that came from the cats killing the rats and mice. Because rats are very dirty family pets then because the felines killed and ate them they will also be grubby. A dirty by connection type of thing. Also there were some big sewer rats working round throughout the day. Once I found a rat and a kitty face off each other and the cat wasn't much bigger than the rat. These were about a ft . apart staring the other person out and the cat ran away. I'm not shocked the rat's teeth were bigger that the cats.
If this attitude towards cats dates back generations then one can understand why historians say the Dark colored Death were only available in China. Where there are rats no cats then the rats dominate and that could have been a precursor for the condition to get close to people. Now whenever i get back to China you may still find rats running around but not so many in the cover estates. There are numerous down by the river. Also they have a very efficient rubbish tidy up system that retains the places very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is accumulated everyday. That would also keep the rat human population down. And with so many discarded pet cats running around the rats don't have much of a chance. I've never seen this but I believe the government picks up a great deal of pet cats. There used to be colonies of stray pet cats moving into some places but now I don't see them any longer.
